The ASEM logo expresses the idea of interaction between Asia and Europe through the intertwined form of an Asian brush-stroke and a simplified roman E. These also combine to form the letters A and E, symbolizing Asia and Europe. The logo represents two different yet intertwined cultures of East and West seeking ways to come together and interact. The colours of the logo-- red and blue -- represent Asia and Europe respectively.

    The design proposal of the ASEM logo was approved at the Fifth ASEM Foreign Minister’s Meeting in 2003. The logo can be used in all kinds of activities within the framework of ASEM under the supervision and guidance of the host country government. The ASEM logo can also be used at ceremonies, conferences and on other occasions related to ASEM and in activities for publicizing ASEM. However it cannot be employed in advertisements, trade marks or for the purpose of political publicity. The host country of ASEM Summit, ASEM Foreign Minister’s Meeting or other important ASEM ministerial meetings usually designs and uses a separate logo for the event.
